Where to Find Food to Feed the Dog
At some point at the start of the game, you are going to run into Mutt, who is clearly very hungry and is waiting for somebody to feed him. Look for Oats nearby and he will tell you that he has a sausage that he refuses to give away.
You could convince him to give you the sausage for free if you pass a dialogue check. If you manage to get it that way, then you can just hand the smoked sausage to Mutt and proceed with the rest of the game.
If you fail the speech check, he will instead tell you that Tankard has his ring, and he will offer you the sausage if you can get it back for him. To do this, you will need to beat Tankard at dice.
There is a comprehensive tutorial on how to play dice in the game, which should pop up if you challenge Tankard to a game. From this point on, you just have to beat him to get the ring, which you can then exchange for the sausage.
And that is all you need to know in order to get food to feed your dog. Just know that it has to be the smoked sausage. Any of the other food items around the camp, such as bread or fruit, will be rejected by the little mutt.
